September 2014

From the President

As we begin the 2014 – 2015 year for SMPS Charlotte, I wanted to share some chapter updates and also tell you about some exciting events we have planned.  Let’s begin by introducing our new SMPS Charlotte 2014-2015 Board of Directors:

Tracy Sagehorn, CPSM (WK Dickson) – President
Kristin Worley-Beamer (Woolpert) – President Elect
Janet Brooks, CPSM (Clark Nexsen) – Past President
Kathleen Chambers, CPSM (S&ME) – Treasurer
Christine Burchett (Stewart) – Secretary
Jen Weaver (LaBella) – Director of Programs
Megan Asher (Edifice) – Director of Membership
Tiffani Evans (A M King) – Director of Communication
Stacey Martin (ColeJenest &  Stone) – Director of Education

2013-2014 was a great year with high attendance programs and educational events.  Our SMPS Boot Camp was a complete success and we will continue to provide high quality education sessions this year.

We had a very productive summer planning session and have a great start to this year’s topics and speakers for both programs and education events. We will kick the year off tomorrow (September 11th) with Ronnie Bryant, President and CEO of the Charlotte Regional Partnership, presenting on the Economic Impact of the Light Rail in Charlotte – be sure to reserve your seat early.  Additional program topics for the year include Green Globes, Retail in the Center City, and K-12 Education among others.  Our education sessions include graphic design trends, content marketing, leadership etc., with some topic-focused Group Therapies thrown in.

This year we are starting the SMPS Charlotte Breakfast Club.  Our goal is a casual, drop in event (3rd Tuesday of each Month from 7:30 – 8:30am at the Panera on Providence) that everyone can keep on their calendar and attend when it is convenient. We all have those crazy days when we just cannot get out of the office to attend a lunch event, so the Breakfast Club will give you a chance to connect with us before work starts.  We held or first one last week and had a great turn out. Be sure to put September 16th on your calendar and come grab a coffee and chat for a few.

Make sure to keep up with all of the chapter’s happenings through our website, blog, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

All of us on the Board are enthusiastic about this upcoming year for the Charlotte chapter, and we hope you are too.  To have a successful year, we need you as members to provide volunteer support, as well as ideas.  Our committees (program, education, membership and communication) are always looking for help. Please contact me or any of the board of directors if you are interested.

I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!
