Who’s ‘Going Platinum’?!? The 2015 Southeastern Regional Conference will be held in Nashville, TN from March 23-25. Check out the website to learn more: The regional conferences are always a great way to add to your education and network with firms from around the region. I hope to see you there!

Reminder - registration for our February program is live! Join us February 12th at Dressler’s Restaurant for our K-12 Panel – The Future of K-12 Educational Design. Space is filling up fast.  Also, don’t miss out on our special educational webinar on February 25th: Client Development – The Key to Winning Work. Be sure to check our website for additional events coming up.

Lastly, I want to mention our Ambassador Program we are kicking off this year. A flyer with the info was sent out recently, and we are looking for SMPS Charlotte members who are involved and would be willing to be matched up with a new member. The goal is to introduce yourselves and then make plans to meet at future events where you can give them a face they know as they walk in the room and also introduce them around. City you were born in/where you grew up: I was born and raised in Columbia, SC

Where you live now and how long you’ve lived there
: I now live in Charlotte and have for about 18 years.

Where you went to college
: University of South Carolina 

Favorite restaurant
: That’s hard to narrow down, but I would have to say Mama Ricotta’s is pretty high on the list.

Favorite book/or last book read: That’s another on that’s hard to narrow down, but I would probably say “The Crimson Petal and the White” by Michael Faber.  A novel set in Victorian England that I couldn’t put down and stayed in my head for a very long time.

Favorite TV show:
 Game of Thrones, hands down.

Favorite movie/or last movie seen
: Don’t think I can list a favorite movie, but the last movie I saw was Maleficent.

Interest or hobbies
: I love to read and hang out with family and friends. I also have a passion for BW photography. 

How did you get your career start? I kind of fell into Marketing when my firm needed a new Marketing Coordinator and I wanted more of a challenge than I was currently getting as an Admin. I definitely got more of a challenge, but I still love it. 

First Job: My first job was a college work study job working in the student music listening lounge.  Hardly anyone knew it was there, so I basically played what I wanted to listen to for my 4-hour shifts and studied.

Personal Hero: My personal hero is my grandfather who was a minister, Civil Rights leader and educator in South Carolina. He taught me the importance of standing up for yourself and those who don’t have a voice.

Favorite Vacation Spot: If I could go back to any one place, it would be Edinburgh, but I am also a HUGE Disney World fan and would go every year if I could.

Society News

The SMPS Marketing Communications Awards Program is the longest-standing, most prestigious awards competition that recognizes excellence in marketing communications produced by professional services firms in the design and building industry. The program provides an unparalleled opportunity for professionals to showcase their best marketing practices and to educate the industry about the critical role of marketing in a successful firm.

This competition is open to SMPS members and nonmembers employed in US and international professional services firms. Marketing communication projects completed between January 2013 and December 2014 will be accepted for the 2015 competition.
