The Future of Transportation

April 04, 2019
11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery
4150 Yancey Road
Charlotte, NC 28217

Congestion continues to be a challenge for our heavily populated urban areas, and Charlotte is no exception. As our country continues to grow, this will only increase these challenges. Managed Lanes are one tool to try and help alleviate congestion and provide for a longer-term solution to managing traffic flows within our congested highways by utilizing dedicated lanes with various operational components that allow an agency to better control traffic flow into and out of the lanes. Embedded in the transportation future is the emergence of new technologies, such as those included in connected and autonomous vehicles, which will further enhance the capabilities of agencies reduce traffic congestion.  Bringing managed lanes and emerging technologies together provides a future transportation windfall that could catapult us into a new era of transportation. Please join the discussion of this exciting topic as we look into the future of transportation!

Mike Davis currently serves as the RS&H National Tolls and Technology Service Group Leader, which includes a focus on Toll Systems & Operations and Emerging Transportation Technology. He is a Professional Engineer with over 24 years of extensive experience in the Transportation Industry, with much of this coming in toll practice areas such as priced managed lanes, tolling infrastructure design, toll systems design, and back office operations. He has served as an implementation thought-leader for RS&H’s Transportation Infrastructure Practice by working with clients and agencies on ways to develop state-of-the art projects, and implement industry-leading programs, across the country.  More recently, he has been focused on ways to effectively incorporate emerging technologies within managed lane facilities since they offer the best-suited initial deployment option for connected and autonomous vehicles.
