Outdoor Learning Spaces

March 24, 2021
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Zoom Meeting

Landscape Architects and Civil Engineers regularly collaborate on K-12 and higher education projects, bringing enthusiasm and creativity to the function of the site the design of outdoor learning environments. In this session, industry experts will examine the successful ways in which these outdoor learning environments of the last decade have fostered a healthy and inquisitive academic life at school. Through a series of case studies, they will share examples from previous work and will reflect on the value of these spaces to teachers and students. Today, the in-person education dilemma has left students and teachers across the world in limbo, reliant on CDC guidelines and fledgling ventilation and filtration systems in aging school facilities for those that are in-person. For those remotely learning, online classrooms have created new economic, social, educational, and behavioral barriers. The end of this presentation will contemplate the post-pandemic world of education and the key role outdoor learning environments might play in maximizing safe in-person learning opportunities.
