Partnerships
SMPS has teamed with She Built This City, a Charlotte-based nonprofit empowering women of all ages in construction & manufacturing in three pillar age groups:
- Exploratory - 9-12 years - foundational hands-on skills in building, manufacturing & STEM concepts changing the trades over the next 10 years
- Career-choosing - 14 years - entrepreneurial projects & social good opportunities in maker spaces to promote a "fresh take" on choices for magnet schools in high schools
- Career-transforming - 18+ - Women@Work Trade Circles in cities around the country (starting with Charlotte, NC metro area) - a "tribe" of empowered industry mentors connected to women seeking entrepreneurial support, RFP assistance, jobs, internships, apprenticeships & advanced training in "future-proof" concepts to immediately fill drastic labor shortages (3D printing, drone inspections, virtual reality, CAD technologies, etc).
Their Mission: To provide industry disruptive programming that sparks interest and builds pathways to lucrative careers in the skilled trades for youth, women and marginalized communities.
JOIN THE W@W ADVISORY COUNCIL
This dedicated group of volunteers is composed of industry specific leaders who promote the success of She Built This City by engaging corporate partners, community partners, and supporting our programming & events in the Charlotte market and beyond.
She Built This City is a unique organization geared to encouraging, training, empowering and sparking interests for girls, career choosing women, and nonbinary individuals in the areas of trades, maker trades and construction.
This volunteer leadership committee will help She Built This City achieve our vision and mission and movement to reach our aggressive goal of 50% representation of Women in Construction and Manufacturing industries by 2030.
GOALS:
Relevance. Help SBTC stay relevant to both the present needs and future of the industry
Guidance. Provide guidance, suggestions and advice on programming and direction of the organization
Support. Support fundraising and volunteer initiatives.
